I haven't really talked about law in a while and I think Jade will agree that it's time for a post in that vein.

I've just got to say that i feel totally inadequate around the law building, in my classes, in the lectures.. hell just walking through the place. I am not sure if it's my own projection of intellectual insecurity or if other law students really are that infuriating. I mean the slightest joke seems to offend my co-tutee's sensibilities (new favorite word). I can't help dotting what i say with pop culture references.. how else would i get through the day really?

I really also feel like i can't say ANYTHING - it's a fucking dilemma!! (I'm sorry, i had to swear) - but work with me here:

So if i don't ask questions or probe different possibilities, then people in tutes and lectures are satisfied and only have to listen without engaging. I, on the other hand, am left with a feeling of sheep (that kind where all you do is get led around by shepherd and eat grass.. and occasionally get a haircut (this is sounding more and more like my life.. strange)).

If i DO ask questions then i am considered a smart-ass, tangential, off the topic nuisance who basically had no idea what she is talking about.
And fair enough - i see that point.

BUT i have been abused BEYOND all that.
I have been called an idiot in my class, for asking a stupid question. AND SUPPOSE THE QUESTION WAS STUPID (it was not. the lecturer totally validated me), is that really motive for calling someone an idiot? I THINK NOT.
And at least i am bloody engaging in the world. I don't think that ostracising someone for their questions is the way to go. I even have a very dear friend who disagrees with me, and normally i'm so impressionable that i would abandon my belief if this friend thought contrary, BUT IN THIS CASE IM PUTTING MY FOOT DOWN.

I would not/will not/won't EVER make someone feel silly for engaging with their studies. I think that is a pathetically arrogant way forward.

I cannot imagine the great minds of this world engaging in such bullying. What people have to say matters, and you can embrace and learn from ANYONE. People just seem to forget about others these days, forget that they share a world and consciousness with a whole lotta people. It takes much more energy to actively be rude, then to just listen and absorb.

And that is all.

Go Nech, you tell those law-students-who-bob-along-like-lemmings who's boss!
I have always been lead to believe that you are supposed to ask questions in classes - so anyone who calls you an idiot for doing so does not deserve to be a student, let alone a law student. hahaha.
So like, isn't contract law just a construct of our capitalist society?
Best, Jade

Please ignore typo in previous post
should read "led" not "lead"
and thanks for mentioning me on your post, by name!

but rose, i don't ever do it when we're in an environment conducive to learning. it's unfortunate that our house isn't a lecture theatre though..
