ROAD. Rage.
We have all had it. I will not even regard someone who claims innocence on this topic. Do you know those times where you REALLY need to be somewhere and therefore (well determinism again) everything goes wrong so that just the opposite happens? Well that's what happened last night when Sarah and I were trying to get to Carlton to grab some dinner with some friends before we were seeing Paris Je T'aime. We wanted to go to Tiamo on Lygon street but. And now for the rant. There were OBVIOUSLY many instances of stupidity that we encountered. Silly people not indicating, silly people not letting people in, silly people turning right at the last minute. stupid stupid traffic changes. just sheer.. idiocy. You know?
But the WORST one we encountered was at the intersection where the NGV and St. Kilda road meet that other road. OKAY SO, on the the coming-back-from-the-city-side there is a green arrow so people can do right hand turns, BEFORE we get our green light to go straight (we being the ones going TO the city). WELL SOME VERY NARCISSISTIC and EVIL and SELF absorbed bus driver AND mini-bus driver DECIDE they will EXTEND their GREEN ARROW WELCOME. Oh yes, they turn on what i assume was an orange and GET BLOODY CAUGHT in the middle of ST KILDA ROAD. So we get our green light BUT WE CANT GO. LIKE how SELFISH. we MISSED our WHOLE light. it was really infuriating.. i hope your blood is as boiled as mine after reading that. how ANNOYING and what's even more annoying is that road-rage is SO useless.. it's not like we're in a war, or starving, or civilly unrested, or in drought (okay...) etc. There is really no reason to complain BUT I FIND MYSELF SO INTOLERANT to stupid drivers. *Napoleon Dynamite sigh "gosh"*.
In any case, Tiamo was full... v. sad b/c pasta there is excellent. We had 15 minutes to order and eat at another place. NOT FUN.
(don't read this part if you are really uptight about previews on movies etc.) (I don't really give anything away because it's more about the stories rather than the conclusions).
Paris Je T'aime.
Beautiful. Made me really miss Paris. I really get it. I think all the stories give you an idea about life. They don't just relate to Paris, but rather to the way a place intertwines with your life. Like when you hear a song that you heard at a specific time - it conjures up a memory. That's sort of the relationship between place and experiences. I think they did a good job.
The last story was of an older woman who went to Paris. The story was so ordinary, not over the top. Parts of this 3 minutes makes your heart wrench and others made you smile. But in the end she concludes that she fell in love. With Paris.
I felt that. It's kind of how i felt when i went to Paris - something just clicked.
In any case, i wistfully watched the whole movie. I enjoyed it - i recommend it even.

Awesome post Nechama.
Haven't reality checked in a while - but this one is ideal.
I too am in love with Paris - can't wait to see the movie.
And Tiamo is the bomb.
But the actual post hurt my eyes!
Anyway, dw 'bout the road rage - focus on the positives.
Best,
Jade
