Justin Timberlake.
Sublimely Brilliant.
No seriously - the best concert I have ever been to.
Let me describe you the night.
So we had champagne. However, I had of course taken the time to carefully choose my outfit. You see, i had to look casual enough to fit into a concert type atmosphere but i had to look good enough so that if Justin noticed me I would at least be dressed for the occasion - in case he fell in love with me.
Anyways, Sarah, Jade and I met at mine and shared a bottle of champagne. We took the train to Richmond. This is when the race started.
See there were many events that night, and if anyone has ever made it to vodaphone from Richmond you will remember that really long path along the train lines - as you walk each event centre grabs it's visitors for the evening and people drop off. Anyways, Vodaphone is the last stadium and me Sarah and Jade were playing that path racing game - where you are walking faster than everyone and have to dodge/speed up/slow down depending on other path user's need against yours. Well i was bloody in need and you should have seen me overtaking these "less than eager" concert goers.
We race in the arena and run around wildly trying to get into the general admissions area.
Eventually we are there, and the opening act is this strange pick of a singer - kind of like a burlesquish cabaret performer.
THEN the lights FLASH (oh my god sitting here writing it two weeks later is making my stomach drop and my skin prickle with excitement). ALL YOU HEAR are screaming fans EVERYWHERE all round the circular stage. There are screens that come down - three: one was a circular screen over the circular stage and the others were S shaped screens emerging like arms around the first.
Then you here a voice stage the words "FUTURE" "SEX" "LOVE" "SOUNDS". (Incidentally i had won the "what's he going to play first" challenge). The whole stadium is totally charged and everyone is on the same pop wave - the "Anticipation".
Justin emerges from the center and on comes the intro to futuresex/lovesounds and moves. He just moved so stealthily, so in control - he prowls. He played old favorites and everything from the new album. It seemed they had divided the songs into four groups and subsequently 4 different kinds of acts. He started slower - the funkier songs - a lot of instrument playing. Senorita was fabulous - he played piano. He then moved onto the performance - running across all the corners of the stage. the performance then cresecendoed with whatgoesaround (i think..). It was just so brilliant.
Then, 15 mins later he comes back with rockyourbody (incidentally i recognised this through the Justins lighting directions which were similar to the ones used in that particular filmclip). He went on to lovestoned with this fucking awesome dance routine on the top of the stage - it and then summerlove.
He then went with some oldies - saying that these songs had particular meaning to him. That was a stationary performance - him playing instruments. By then he had performed for about 2 hours.
This was the moments when i reached sublime and transcendent, awe-inspiring moments: The whole stadium is completely synced in energy levels. Justin plays the UNBELIEVABLE rock version of Crymeariver - like it's just AMAZING - i cannot explain: it was just so great. And then he moved on to sexyback. Sexyback was brilliant with the rock edge and it was definitely a glorious end to the concert.
The crowd encored for AGES. I had to block my ears it was so loud (oh i forgot to mention that Justin threw water on us from the stage!! we were close enough to see facial hair. so ner!). He came back and performed Allloveragain (i think) - it was meant to be a quiet intimate moment with the crowd type song... (personally i dont actually think it cut it).
He concluded and the concert finished. BUT NOT BEFORE they played, oh yes, they played BITTERSWEETSYMPHONY (like it was put on the speakers - Verve version) and the band, the dancers and Justin BOWED to us all. Slightly tacky but at the moment i was willing to believe anything.
Lights went on and we shuffled out.
Bloody phenomenal.
And you know why i loved it? Because I loved the feeling of being part of a production that brought so much happiness to so many people - it was seriously the best concert i have ever been to. Okay i know i sound really lame, but it's true.
Anyways, i still get a little teary when i think about the concert. Being in general admission, we had armbands. I couldn't bring myself to remove mine for two days, and even then i forced my hand out of the band in order to preserve it (i.e. not have to cut it). Can i also add the losingmyway was a highlight song as well. loved the projections.

(Incidentally, the movie "The Secret" is a load of crap - I sent out the message to the universe that JT would fall in love with me or that i would at least get to meet him and IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.)
