The Lovely and the Lecherous
So i haven't really talked about the Indian men. They fall into one category - those who are trying to pick you up.
I have met some lovely ones though. Sarah and I did a cooking course with another couple (such nice people!). The class was done at a home kitchen restaurant - really unnoticeable unless you have super-vision... In any case, the family that owns the shop/restaurant is lovely - and you get such a dad-feeling from the husband.
Other than that it's pretty insane. The owner of a restaurant/bar/3travel shops spent 4 days trying to convince me that he was in love with me and that i should move to Varkala. He said that "when he saw me he was just smitten" "he knew there was something different about me" "He has a big feeling for me". I do not know where they get these lines (I will admit though that this guy, unlike most of them, was very charming and that it takes a lot of guts to put that much effort in for one person, only to have that person laugh in your face. Every time.)
Then I met this lovely Kashmiri boy - 21 - who sold me fisherman pants for rs. 80 (huge bargain - he wrote down that he had sold a top, not pants, to cover for it). Anyways we were just friendly and one night i was going to buy some water and he was just walking. He had a really cool necklace on and i tried it one. then i bought my water and said goodnight (and went back to the bar i was in). I found out the next morning that some local guys punched him for touching me (in the process of handing over the necklace). Like oh my god.
Then i was in another restaurant and our waiter kept bringing us all drinks but making MY drinks REALLY strong. Like more vodka than pineapple juice. So i just gave my drinks to Sarah (we don't need to go into how easily alcohol effects me). Later that night the waiter came up to me and said "I just need to go an buy beer but later i would like to talk to you alone". I was like "er.. maybe.. (in my head MAYBE NOT EVER)". Then when he couldn't get me alone he was like "I have big feeling for you. I have not any experience but big feeling. I really like you. Just one kiss" BLAH blah. Admittedly FUNNY and yet slightly harassed. You cannot escape it here.
Yesterday I actually snapped about it. I was in the Internet place and the guy said to me "do you want to do you photos now" (i had tried twice that day and it hadn't worked so i had NO patience) so i said "I have not patience". He's like "why?". So i said, just because. THEN HE ASKED AGAIN.
So i was like "JUST BECAUSE." they all got such a shock - i laugh when i think about it. See i am always smiling and calm (DESPITE WHAT YOU THINK MUM!) and this was like a shock to the system.
I think was over tired.. we had Thali last night and i went to sleep after it - at 20:15 and i told Sarah i would be up at 22:00. When the alarm went off i just turned it off and went back to sleep. Then Sarah got me up at 22:40 and i came out for 1 hour and said 'stuff this' and went back to sleep. NO FOMO* FOR ME. I feel GREAT today.
Well I'll give a mental shrug... and don't worry adults, i haven't been THAT harassed...
*FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out - A term invented by some fearful shnatties. Fortunately i have a solution for FOMO - it can never be the 'the time of YOUR life' if you weren't there.
