Im-moot-ality

definition: a fate unimaginable whereby one would have to prepare law moots from here unto eternity.

I have been a tad busy since July 10th. I was living out of home for a month, recently moved back, started working more than usual and had to participate in a law moot.

Law moots are interesting things, and there is just so much to say about them. I think I'll dot point them: My guide to mooting:

  • Firstly, one needs to know that as far as a moot is concerned, black is the new black.
  • Also, it's important to walk around as though you know what you are talking about. In reference to life. In general. Even if (shocked gasp) you don't.
  • Then you need to be comfortable with swearing at your mooting partner. Stuff what they say about eloquence and rationality, mooting involves being frustrated. frustration is best served when you take it out on someone you like (but why must you hurt me in this way, harry). So mark my words, be prepared to swear.
  • Ask why. "This case doesn't make sense" "Why?" "I submit..." "Why?" "Because that's what I read" "Why?" "Because that's what the problem said to do" "why?" "i don't know, you wrote it" "why?" "because you wanted to torture first year mooters?" "why?" "because we are easily manipulated" "why?" "because you make us feel like we don't know anything" "why?" "you are compensating for something?" "why?" "ask your father" AND WALK AWAY. (okay that was a gender biased paragraph, i admit.)
  • People who are nice are suspicious. People who aren't nice are more comfortable to be around.
  • There is no "I think" OH AND, despite what they tell you in Legally Blond, they don't appreciate the phrases "totally" or "basically". And don't tell a "judge" that you know endorphins are produced in the brain because you heard Reece tell that to the partner in the law firm in Legally Blond.
  • Lastly, winning is actually losing. BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO MOOT AGAIN.

So that's basically what i had to do all this week. All things considered, like that fact that i am not objectively clinically insane, i think it went okay.
